Perfect Game Youth Bats Banned

As of April 24, 2017, the following bats will no longer be allowed at PG, PGBA, or Super25 events.  These bats failed their audits for the Bat Performance Factor (BPF) 1.15 rating.  BPF is simply the increase in the liveliness of a ball hitting a bat compared to throwing a ball against a solid wall. The bat restrictions have been updated.  This should only affect age 12 and below.

Racing The Years

For the 8th time, people will gather and share a morning running or walking in downtown Roanoke, Indiana.  Our kids went to Roanoke Elementary School and the Discover Roanoke race helped fund extra materials and resources for teachers and students.  Those additional books in the library and the gifts for the 5th graders graduating to middle school were supported in part by the race.  Although the kids have changed, the parent teacher organization still uses the money raised to pour back into the students. Some things never change.

We are in the final preparations for the 10k and 5k races that begin at 9 AM and the 1 mile race that starts at 9:05 AM.  The volunteers are getting their assignments and the routes are getting marked.  We once again sense the excitement of the participants.  Some have been with us the entire way while others are going to experience the atmosphere for the first time.

We want to thank our old friends and new friends alike who come together in sometimes beautiful and sometimes not so nice weather to support the kids and enjoy a day on the race course.  We thank you for spending one of your April Saturday mornings with us and others who enjoy the challenge of the race or just the great conversation that is found along the way.  A big thank you goes to the community support as well. Bippus State Bank, Parkview Physicians Group, Dick's Sporting Goods, Dr. Amy Welker, Fleet Feet Sports, and Ironclad Excavating .  In-kind sponsors include Subway of Roanoke and Rolling Pin Bakehouse.

The proverb says that "It takes a village to raise a child".  In our case, these kids have the support of thousands!  Thank You!

The Mission

The Mission Each Year

How do we provide opportunities for each player to reach their goals and potential?  What tools can we give players to use to overcome the obstacles that are in their way?

Do you want to play softball or baseball in high school or beyond?

We are asking players, parents and coaches - What opportunities do players need to take their game to the next level?  Consider as an individual player your exposure to colleges, good competition, good coaching, and opportunity to challenge your abilities.

  1. Do you want to challenge yourself?
  2. Are you satisfied with the tournaments and showcases options you have?
  3. Do you want a shot at going to a big school, a school out of state or both?
  4. Do you want to travel as an individual to see new parks and see the competition elsewhere? If your answer is yes, would you like to do this in the Fall or Summer?
Send us an email onturfsports@gmail.com.
Tell us anything you think you need or want! Make it a wish list.  We will continue to ask players, parents and coaches the questions and get everyone's thoughts on making a better future!
Best of Luck !

2018 USA Baseball Organizations Bat Changes

2018 USA Baseball Bat Changes

The bat changes noted do not apply to travel baseball at the time this article was written.
No Baseball Players Association (BPA) changes for 2017.

January 1, 2018 ushers in new bat changes for the national member organizations (NMOs) of USA Baseball. American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC), Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), Babe Ruth Baseball/Cal Ripken Baseball, Dixie Youth Baseball, Little League Baseball and PONY Baseball will adopt USA Baseball's new bat standard (USABat).  The standard looks to have manufacturers create bats that perform like a wood bat and will apply to bats that are classified below the NCAA and NFHS level of play.  "The new standard will not have a drop-weight limit, so young players can use bats made with light-weight materials." - USA Baseball website.

All the USA Baseball NMOs approved bats can be used during game play until December 31, 2017 using the current standards.  The plan is for the bat manufacturers to release the new bats in the Fall of 2017 in time for the 2018 season.
